Exploring Natural Plant Pigments Workshop
Instructor: Natalie Stopka
This weekend course delves into the rich colors of historical lake pigments: beautiful pre-industrial colors manufactured from natural plant dyes and minerals. Taking inspiration from 14-18th century European recipes, you will learn to extract dye from four botanical sources and one insect. We’ll transmute that dye into stable pigments, which can be used in making any pigment-based natural artists’ materials. Together we’ll concoct inks, watercolors, and pastels. You will leave with a swatchbook and an array of our handmade materials to fold into your studio practice.
