Alto 1, Alto 1, 2019, Erin King
deconstructed piano action, yarn 51 x 16 x 3.5
This is one of a total of 6 piano loom weavings made for my MFA Thesis Exhibition, Musica Universalis. Four weavings were created on deconstructed piano actions, and the other two were woven on the pegboard of the piano keyboard. Each piece in the exhibition had an accompanying hand-crack paper scroll music box.

Well-Behaved Women Rarely Make History, 2020
Found book, found objects, overshot pattern-draft 22 x 11 x 2
A found book, "The Photographic History of The Civil War, Volume 1: The Opening Battles", has been converted into a weapon-concealing book. Shapes have been carved out of the pages to fit the weapons, tools of traditional women's handicraft: knitting needles, a crochet hook, a tapestry beater, etc.

My Body, My Choice, 2020
deconstructed retired American flag 36 x 19.5 x 1
After my first American flag artpiece, a friend gave me two cotton flags that had belonged to her grandpa. The red and white stripes were used in another art piece, and I made this piece, as can probably be expected, during the peak of the shutdown and PPE crisis.

There Will Be Time, 2016
deconstructed retired American flag 8 x 17.25 x 4.5
This piece was made during the worldwide Women's Marches in response to President Trump's inauguration, as well as the ignorant responses to Kaepernick's kneeling during the National Anthem. I researched U.S. Flag Code to ensure I did not break any flag (or avoided blatantly disrespecting the flag). The flag was torn apart, not cut, and I tried my best to keep the strands in continuous lengths of fabric. Originally I saw it as a negative protest piece, but during a studio visit with the director of the art department, I learned that the strength of this piece was that it was suspended between states, and suggests that all is not lost and that we can rebuild.
