When I think of the tragedy of so many lives lost from covid I respond emotionally and I respond physically. I find a knot in my throat, I see the stain this pandemic has left on all of us, but also, I am aware of how to connects us. This piece was created for @markinglivescovid19 knots, stains, ties.

Society has hang-ups about the body-unmentionables- parts and processes that are too embarrassing, too upsetting, or deemed too offensive to address publicly with words. Modification of body often starts with our underthings, our lingerie, our underwear. Why are some parts of ourselves expected to stay covered and hidden, while others are to be emphasized. Using hand dyed crinoline, garment notions, and traditional sewing techniques, each individual garment is formed from popular lingerie garment pattern shapes, to examine the absurdity of reshaping the body.

Skin is my largest organ- I experience the world through it. In this body of work, using textile as a surrogate for skin, I explore the body’s organic texture and shape, its vulnerability and its strength- reimagining the human body as an organized living moving artwork of layered fibrous textile material.

Hand Dyed Cotton Batting, thread 34"x22"x16"
This work is about loss, created by hand dyeing, cutting, and forming varied individual vessels. Each vessel has been hand sewn, joining the larger mass that is hollow, and empty. Once vigorous, and bursting to overflow, it has been vacated and left behind to collapse under its own weight. Residue is formed from more than 90 separate non-woven fiber vessels, each with its own individual dye bath.
