Youngmin Lee’s statement on Remnants of Memory: When I found indigo dyed handwoven cotton at the antique store in Korea, this had taken me to the conversation with memories that cloth might carried over time. Then my very organic creating process has started. I initiate the process by putting small fragments together, then work as I go along. Sometimes the piece grows as I planned, but at other times, it grows as if it has its own intention. I just enjoy the rhythm of stitching, with the result beyond my control. I appreciate the beauty that results from the long and slow process of hand stitching – a meditative act that creates an unexpected and spontaneous result. @youngminlee_bojagi
이영민의 작품 Remnants of Memory 이야기: 한국의 골동품 가게에서 남색으로 염색한 손으로 짠 면화를 발견했을때 천이 시간이 지남에 따라 간직 할수 있었던 추억과의 대화로 나아 갔다. 그런 다음 저의 매우 유기농적인 창작 과정이 시작되었습니다. 작은 조각들을 모아서 프로세스를 시작한 다음 진행하면서 작업합니다. 가끔은 내가 계획한대로 자라는 경우도 있지만 어떤때는 다른 의도대로 자라는 경우도 있습니다. 나는 그저 스티칭의 리듬을 즐긴다. 그 결과는 내 통제를 넘어선다. 저는 길고 천천히 하는 손 스티칭 과정에서 비롯된 아름다움에 감사합니다. 즉, 예상치 못한 자발적인 결과를 만들어내는 명상적인 행위입니다.
Dong Kyu Kim is a mixed-media artist and fashion designer whose works are constructed of paper receipts, tickets, and other materials collected over the past 10 years since relocating in the U.S. since 2007 and sewn together by hand. His work explores his relationship to the U.S. and the concept of the American dream and how individual lives are affected by transitions in global economic structures. @the_sewing_man
김동규는 2007년에 미국으로 이주한 후 지난 10년 동안 수집한 종이 영수증, 티켓 및 기타 자료를 수작업으로 꿰매는 믹스 미디어 아티스트이자 패션 디자이너입니다. 그의 작품은 미국과의 관계, 아메리칸 드림의 개념, 그리고 글로벌 경제 구조의 전환이 개인의 삶에 미치는 영향을 탐구합니다.
