International Fiber Arts X
Sebastopol Center for the Arts (SCA) and Surface Design Association (SDA) present International Fiber Art X , which will feature distinct approaches to innovative and traditional fiber techniques, and contemporary concepts that use traditional and non-traditional materials. This exhibition call will accept both two or three-dimensional pieces, including wearable and installation art. Work that addresses the theme of environmental issues is encouraged but not required for entry or selection into the exhibit.

Jurors
Carole Beadle, Professor Emeritus in Textiles at California College of Arts and practicing studio artist, is currently teaching Fiber Sculpture for College of Marin. She received the Fine Arts Award at the International Textile Exhibit and the Sincol Award in Japan, Fulbright Scholar Award Norway, and Marin Arts Council Grants. She has exhibited at San Francisco Museum Craft and Design, Museum Arts and Design in NYC, Smithsonian, Washington DC, De Young Museum in SF, American Embassy Oslo Norway and Chateau Copiac France.
Tom Grotta graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in photography. He has been the co-curator of browngrotta arts, which focuses on international contemporary art textiles and fiber sculpture, since 1987. The Gallery has produced 50 catalogs featuring Grotta’s photography, which is in several private collections and Serralves Museum of Art in Portugal. He has lectured on fiber art and photography at art organizations in New York, California, Hawaii and elsewhere.
Melissa Leventon is a specialist in the history of European and American fashion and textiles. Formerly Curator-in-Charge of Textiles at Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, she is now principal of Curatrix Group Museum Consultants and Appraisers, consulting with US museums and Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles in Bangkok. A noted author and popular lecturer, Melissa teaches fashion history and theory at California College of the Arts, and is on San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles board.
