1) Emma Mattson’s beautiful series of mixed media moss embroideries on Colossal.

2) Jenny Sabin created an amazing light absorbing knitted installation at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York.

3) Game of Thrones fans, check out these detail shots of the intricate costumes created for the show on the Smatterist blog.

4) Design Studio Zeitguised released a simulated fashion project filled with dream-like videos and captivating images of their artificially generated fashion.

5) The D.I.S.C. (Discover, Innovate, Share, and Create) Residency in Odisha state of India goal is to connect artists from all over the world for cultural dialogues and artistic collaborations. This deadline of August 1st is fast approaching, but worth the look into.

6) The Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, OH is having a call for entries for their Quilt National ‘17 exhibition. The deadline to apply is September, 1st.

7) Arizona State University’s Fiber Arts Network is having an International Juried Exhibition. Their group is collective of students, faculty, and alumni who all seek a stronger sense of community and support for contemporary fiber artists living and working in the surrounding area. Deadline to apply is October 1st.

8) A beautiful article about the gendering of language and a proposal to shift academic writing from building metaphors to ones of sewing. Check out Katie Collins‘ article, “The Materiality of Research: ‘Woven into the Fabric of the Text: Subversive Material Metaphors in Academic Writing’” from the London School of Economics and Political Science to further understand this investigation into academic reading, writing, and research.

9) Futuristech Info blog just posted about genetically altered silkworms that produce fabric nearly as tough as Kevlar, but with 10x more flexibility.

10) How Home Sewing Personalized Fashion by Frances Katz is an object lesson on the transformations of garments from The Atlantic.
